Best time to visit Curacao

Are you thinking about going to Curacao? Did you know that there are specific times when you will get the most out of your trip? Even though this island is in the Caribbean, it must be said that Curacao doesn’t have perfect weather all year around.

With that in mind, this doesn’t mean you can only travel to the island on a specific date, however, if you are already planning on investing your hard-earned money on a holiday like this, then you may as well try to make it during dry season for you to enjoy everything that this place has to offer you.

Continue reading and find out when is the best time to visit Curacao.

Curacao: a tropical island

Curacao is the definition of tropical. It is a hot island..well, not because it is an ‘’in’’ holiday destination at the moment as its popularity is increasing, but because Curacao’s weather is hot all year round.

It is a good thing you are reading this as you will feel more prepared for your upcoming trip to the island, because, did you know that daytime temperatures can range from 29 degrees Celsius (around 84 °F) from December to February. And 31 degrees Celsius (or 88 °F) between May and October.

Is there a best time to visit Curacao?

You may be surprised, but yes, the best moment to go to Curacao is from May to November, which is also during Curacao’s off-peak season. But wait, off-season, you said? Yes! You read it right!

Going to the island during the off-peak season means your hotel rates and airfares will be cheaper than any other date. In fact, if you try to go during the high season (which is usually around summertime) you will be expected to pay an increased rate of more than 50%!

Also, if you go during off-peak season, you will not have to worry about sharing your personal space with others whenever you go to the beach. Yes, Curacao can get very crowded during high season, and more often than not, tourists are basically all in the same place!

So, from May to November you will have a great weather as well, but you may experience some light showers, especially during the night.

Is there a bad time to go to Curacao?

This question is very subjective, as it all depends on the person who is traveling. For me, going to Curacao (or any other place for that matter) during high season seems a little bit uncomfortable.

If you think about it, most tourists will go to this Caribbean island during December and April. This is mainly because they want to escape the cruel winter months. And of course, it’s perfectly normal to do so.

However, this also means that hotel rates will rapidly increase and airfare tickets will literally skyrocket. So, if you are thinking about traveling to Curacao, you need to be honest with yourself and your pocket.

Ask yourself these questions: Are you willing to pay more for a trip to Curacao? Can you wait until the off-peak season to travel there? Will you be comfortable with crowded beaches, hotels and restaurants? Or would you prefer to go whenever things have calmed down?

Do hurricanes hit Curacao?

No, they don’t. In fact, hurricanes tend to go around Curacao, so you don’t have to worry about being on holiday in the island and all of the sudden you have a red alert and you need to evacuate the place. This makes Curacao a very safe place to travel to.

Another positive point about going to Curacao is the island’s weather, as it tends to be very sunny even though it may be hurricane season somewhere nearby. In comparison to other islands in the Caribbean, Curacao’s torrential rains are fewer.

Another great thing about Curacao’s location is that its marine life is usually unaffected by the changes of seasons. And even though climate change has definitely affected this part of the world, Curacao remains one of the few islands with untouched coral reefs.

Curacao has a unique touch

Curacao’s location makes this island a very interesting subject to be studied. As you may be aware, Curacao is completely influenced by something called the north-east trade wind, which basically means that Curacao is hit by strong winds sometimes.

This also means that the island is considered as a dried land, in other words, it doesn’t really rain that much. There is also the factor of global warming that has affected us all, so it is perfectly normal to have an extremely dry year in Curacao, and then the next year it won’t stop raining.

In addition to this, Curacao is also very close to the equator, which means that the island is likely to be warm and sunny all the time. And would you like to know another good thing? You won’t be able to see (or feel for that matter) many mosquitoes during spring See? Perfect for your visit!

What about the capital city?

Weather in Willemstad doesn’t change that much either, however, there is a lot, and I mean a massive amount of humidity at some points. The hottest months of the capital city are July, August and September.

What to do in Curacao?

Curacao is a lovely island that forms part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Its architecture is characterized by the heavy influence the island has on Dutch culture and ways of being. In fact, Curacao is known for its very colorful and delightful appearance, which is a perfect match if you ask me!

This Caribbean gem also offers culinary experiences that are out of this world, and this is mainly due to the fact that many different cultures have come together to live in this amazing island.

And what happens if it rains while you are there? Well,  there are activities that you can go to or do and that they will make you feel better. For example, you can go to the History Museum. Sometimes the hotels offer a type of entertainment show that could also be a great idea!

It all comes down to you

I personally believe that every single individual will think differently about when is it a good time to go to Curacao. To me, however, it is quite obvious that I would go during off-peak season as I will be able to enjoy more of Curacao’s nature, where I won’t have to wait for hours to be served at a restaurant, and where I will be able to save some money as well!

But it all comes down to you and what YOU want and how you would like to spend your holidays. If you are the type of person who doesn’t mind about high-season and off-peak season and you are simply looking forward to your trip, then you can definitely go to Curacao all year round.

However, if you are like me and you would prefer to have a more intimate holiday, where you can simply sit down and relax, then I will recommend you to go during off-peak season. You will save money but, what’s more, you will not complain about being on a beach that is too crowded, as you will be one of the few tourists there! And that is a great situation to be in!
